lyric-opera-25The La Scala Academy (Accademia Teatro alla Scala) is one of the world’s premiere institutions for comprehensive professional training in all artistic, technical, and managerial areas of the performing arts. Organized into four departments – Music, Dance, Stagecraft, Management – the Academy offers some thirty different courses attended each year by over 1,700 students.

The Course
Founded by Riccardo Muti in 1997 under the artistic direction of Leyla Gencer (and later of her successors Mirella Freni and Renato Bruson), the La Scala Academy of lyric opera provides young opera singers with a solid background in voice and music, honing their technical and interpretive skills in a two-year program to prepare them for a successful professional career.
The Course for Opera Singers prepares young opera singers with a solid background in voice and music for a professional career, honing their technical and interpretive skills in a two-year program. This is possible thanks to a teaching staff of the highest caliber who is able to transmit its own experience on stage to the emerging opera singers.
An important aspect of the course since the first year it was offered, soloists are given numerous opportunities to perform on stage before an audience in Italy and abroad in an intensive program of concerts and operas.
The Scholarship
Each student admitted to the La Scala Opera Academy will receive a monthly stipend of 900 euros, contingent upon effective attendance and limited to the months during which the course is offered.
The stipend is made possible thanks to contributions from a large group of patrons, including foundations, associations, businesses, individuals, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, which offers up to ten scholarships to foreign students as part of initiatives to promote cultural exchange, internationalization, Italian culture, and higher education.
