NOTICE: From September 1, 2025, date of reopening of the VFS Office of the Norwegian Embassy, Malawian citizens and foreign nationals residing in Malawi, will have to apply for Schengen visas (for stays of up to 90 days) through the above mentioned office. Notice for holders of Italian residence permit (Permesso di Soggiorno):
Italian legislation on visas provides that the foreign citizens in possession of the following documents can return to Italy without a visa:
- receipt for the renewal of their expired residence document,
- application receipt for the first residence permit for any of the following reasons: family reunification, subordinate work and self-employment,
In order to return to Italy, they will need to comply with the following:
- enter exclusively through Italy, without transiting through other Schengen countries;
- be in possession of the following documents for verification at border controls in Italy:
- the travel document;
- renewal or application receipt duly stamped by the Italian Border Authorities upon leaving Italy;
- in case of renewal copy of the expired residence permit.
