Laminated certificates cannot be accepted. Once the certificate has been obtained from the local authorities, the applicant must send it, together with the relevant application form, to the Consular Section of the Embassy or submit it in person (see below).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For the registration of death certificates, no application form is required.<\/li>\n<li>For the registration of divorce records, please refer to the Legalisation and Translation section.<\/li>\n<li>Do not send laminated certificates, as they cannot be stamped by the Embassy for registration in Italy.<\/li>\n<li>The registration of civil-status records is <strong>free of charge<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Original certificates submitted for registration in Italy <strong>WILL NOT be returned<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>No appointment is required<\/strong> to submit the documents.<\/p>\n<p>Original documents may be handed to the Embassy Guards, in a sealed envelope addressed to the Consular Office, from Monday to Thursday between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, and on Fridays from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm. Alternatively, they may be sent by DHL or FedEx courier.<\/p>\n<p><strong>REGISTRATION OF MARRIAGE CERTIFICATES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In Zambia<\/strong>, marriage certificates must be requested from the Registrar General\u2019s Office in Lusaka (Dedan Kimathi \/ corner of Independence Avenue), by presenting the certificate issued by the Church or the City Council.<\/p>\n<p>For registration in Italy, the original marriage certificate issued by the Registrar General\u2019s Office in Lusaka must be submitted.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In Malawi<\/strong>, the marriage certificate must be requested from the Registrar\u2019s Office in Lilongwe or Blantyre, by presenting the certificate issued by the Church or the City Council. The certificate issued by the Registrar\u2019s Office must then be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Lilongwe for an <em>Apostille<\/em>. Legalisation is therefore not required. (See the <a href=\"https:\/\/amblusaka.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Apostille-Malawi-for-use-in-Italy.pdf\">Malawi Apostille facsimile<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marriage registration application form<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>REGISTRATION OF BIRTH CERTIFICATES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following the entry into force of the new legislation on the acquisition of Italian citizenship (Decree-Law No. 36\/2025 and Law No. 74\/2025), the registration of birth records <strong>is no longer automatic<\/strong> for children of dual citizens.<\/p>\n<p>The procedure is as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/amblusaka.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/citizenship\/\">Citizenship<\/a> section (<strong>Application for Italian Citizenship by Children of Italian Citizens<\/strong>), check which case applies;<\/li>\n<li>send the Consular Office a copy of the documents required for the relevant case by email to <a href=\"mailto:consolare.lusaka@esteri.it\">consolare.lusaka@esteri.it<\/a>;<\/li>\n<li>once confirmation has been received from the Consular Office, complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/amblusaka.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Istanza-trascrizione-nascita-minori-nuova-normativa-LSK.pdf\">application form<\/a> and submit it together with the original birth certificate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>In Zambia<\/strong>, birth certificates must be requested from the Registrar General\u2019s Office in Lusaka (Dedan Kimathi \/ corner of Independence Avenue), by presenting the document issued by the health authority (<em>Notice of Birth<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>PLEASE NOTE:<\/strong> Original certificates required for registration <strong>WILL NOT be returned<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>REGISTRATION OF DEATH CERTIFICATES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In Zambia<\/strong>, death certificates must be requested from the Registrar General\u2019s Office in Lusaka (Dedan Kimathi \/ corner of Independence Avenue), by presenting the document issued by the health authority (<em>Notice of Death<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>For registration in Italy, the original <strong>Death Certificate<\/strong> or <strong>Duplicate Death Certificate<\/strong> must be submitted (see the <a href=\"https:\/\/amblusaka.esteri.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/ZAMBIA-New-certificate-and-Duplicate-certificate.pdf\">Zambia New Certificate and Duplicate Certificate facsimile<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>In Malawi<\/strong>, the death certificate must be requested from the Registrar\u2019s Office in Lilongwe or Blantyre.
