Macro economy

Zambia has been growing at a steady pace for years. Investments and consumption offer unexplored and certainly promising possibilities for all the "Made in Italy". The Italian entrepreneurial presence during the decades following independence has left important infrastructures and an appreciation still ingrained and widespread in the country. Among the Italian works worth of mention are the Kariba dam and the role of Alitalia as a key partner of Zambian Airways. The constructive entrepreneurial approach and the quality of Italian products and works are widely recognized and contribute to a favorable environment for economic relations with Italian companies. The sectors considered priority by this government for the economic and social development of Zambia are energy (especially renewable energies), the agro-food chain and tourism. There are also prospects for the construction of public works (roads, bridges, social housing) which, however, presuppose public participation or PPP (Public Private Partnership). There is a strong interest on the part of Zambian companies owned by Italian nationals to create partnerships with possible Italian companies interested in investing in these area. This could encourage an exchange of knowledge in various priority sectors in the country, facilitating the entry of new Italian companies into this market.
The launch of initiatives in Zambia in fact requires experience and availability of resources but the profit prospects, once past the initial phase, remain excellent. For this reason, the Embassy promotes contacts with possible local partners, with banks and lenders. The Embassy has also promoted the creation of the Italian Business Club, an association of Italian entrepreneurs in Zambia, that will be able to play a leading role in promoting the intensification of economic and commercial relations and the presence of our businesses in Zambia.
