The Embassy is committed to promoting Italian culture in Zambia and cultural collaboration with the Zambian government. In this context, the Embassy actively collaborates with the Italian School of Lusaka, the Zambian-Italian Cultural Center and the local Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society.
Italian School and Zambian-Italian Cultural Center
In the 1980s, the Italian community of Lusaka established the "Zambian-Italian Cultural Center Trust" foundation which took over the management of the Italian School of Lusaka, which has been active since the 1970s.
Despite being a private institution, the school is also financially supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through an annual contribution and today the school has over 400 Zambian and international students.
The non-profit foundation has built a new structure, the Zambian- Italian Cultural Center, adjacent to the school, which was inaugurated on March 13th , 2020, at the presence of the Zambian Government Minister of Tourism and the Arts, Ronald Chitotela.
The Cultural Center is a multipurpose facility, equipped with a first-rate sound system, which can accommodate 300 people and can host theatrical performances, cinemas, conferences, seminars, and economic and cultural promotion events.
Lusaka Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society
The Lusaka Committee of the Dante Alighieri Society is located at the Zambian-Italian Cultural Center which was reactivated, after a silent period, in June 2019. The Committee plays a fundamental role in teaching the Italian language in Zambia by organizing courses for this purpose for adults, teenagers and children.
