The President of Zambia, Edgar Chagwa Lungu, of the Patriotic Front (PF) party, was confirmed in office during the 2016 elections, prevailing on the candidacy of Hakainda Hichilema, leader of the United Party for National Development (UPND) by just over 2%.
On the Zambian constitution - already modified by the PF government that had introduced the double shift amongst other measures - a draft reform was presented by the government, currently being tablen in Parliament, together with regulations governing access to information and public security.


The government remains committed to applying the country's Seventh Development Plan link https://www.sdgphilanthropy.org/system/files/2019-02/7th-National-Development-Plan-Zambia.pdf  the central theme of which is to accelerate development efforts towards the Vision 2030, without leaving anyone behind. Five strategic objectives form the pillars of the 7NDP:

1) To diversify and make economic growth inclusive

2) To reduce poverty and vulnerability

3) To reduce developmental inequalities

4) To enhance human development

5) To create a conducive governance environment for a diversified and inclusive economy
