VISITOR’S CHARGE FOR TOURISTS STAYING IN ROME
On the 28th of July 2010 the Rome City Council approved the introduction of a charge for staying within the city.
This “Visitor’s Charge” is to be used to guarantee better services and facilities for tourists visiting the city.
The charge will be levied as of 1st January 2011 and is to be paid, upon checking-out, by tourists who stay in all overnight accommodation facilities (except hostels) that are situated within the city of Rome. The charge is to be paid also by those who booked and paid for the trip through a travel agency or tour operator and therefore only have to present their voucher at the lodging facility. Likewise, since the premise of the charge is not the lodging facility but the mere staying in the town’s facilities, the charge must also be paid by those who for whatever reason do not have to pay for the accommodation (eg tour guides, drivers of tourist buses). Children below the age of two years do not pay.
Details of Visitor’s Charge:
Camping sites 2 Euros per person per night for a maximum of 10 nights
Agri-tourism 2 Euros per person per night for a maximum of 10 nights
Bed and Breakfast 2 Euros per person per night for a maximum of 10 nights
Rented rooms 2 Euros per person per night for a maximum of 10 nights
Holiday apartments/Residences 2 Euros per person per night for a maximum of 10 nights
1, 2 and 3 star hotels 2 Euros per person per night for a maximum of 10 nights
4 and 5 star hotels 3 Euros per person per night for a maximum of 10 nights
Please note that the approval process by the competent city authorities is still underway and therefore the above information could be subject of slight changes.
All tourist bodies worldwide are kindly requested to give the widest publicity to the above so that tourists and operators/agents are duly informed.
Thank you for the cooperation
Signed: The Director of the Department of Tourism
